Junior Category

What is the Challenge?

In line with "Architecting Your Future" theme for Build On, Singapore 2019, the Junior Category will be challenging Primary & Secondary school students to utilize AWS services to build innovative & meaningful solutions for the community based on the challenge statements provided. The statements will be available after the 1st workshop.

Building On, Singapore 2019 will consist of 2 segments:

Phase 1: Project Proposals Submission (Due 30th April 2019)

All participants can choose to attend either a workshop conducted in-person or online by AWS. Upon doing so, you'd be required to create a project proposal for review, consisting of the following information:

- What: Challenge Statement

- How: Solutions and How it resolves the problem

- Who: Target Audience

- Tech: Technical Architecture of Solution

The top 20 finalists of each sub-category (Primary/Secondary) will be announced on the website together with an email notification to the teams whom are through to the finals. 

Phase 2: Final Prototype (Due 19th May 2019)

The top 20 finalists of each sub-category will then be given additional credits to build their project. The final prototype will be showcased on the 19th May 2019 at the inaugural SG:Digital Wonderland exhibition. Teams will be challenge on that day with a bonus challenge to gain additional points. 

A live judging will proceed throughout the day to pick the winners.

What are the Winning Categories?

The junior category consists of the following categories to be won in each sub-category (Primary/Secondary):

- Build On, Singapore 2019 Champion

- Build On, Singapore 2019 1st - 3rd Runner-Up
- Viewer's Choice Award
- Most Innovative Award

- Best Presentation Award

What will be taught during the Workshops?

Initially, all participating teams will be provided a fundamental workshop to kick-start your journey into AWS. These 1 day sessions will be conducted either @ AWS Training Facilities or @ Singapore Polytechnic. Details will be send upon your registration. 

The 2 sub-categories, Primary & Secondary, will be hosted separately and you'll be taught:
- What is Cloud Computing & Who is Amazon Web Services (AWS)

- What are some of the Core services in AWS?

- What can you build with AWS?

- Introduction to Artificial Intelligence & the Alexa Voice Service

- Introduction to the Internet of Things & the AWS IoT Button

What are the Rules & Regulations?

The following Rules & Regulations apply to both Primary & Secondary school students:

- This is only for Primary School students & Secondary School students from a Singapore based school.

- All teams should consist of 3 - 5 members of the same/different school.
- Each team should have an accompanying adult (Aged 21 and above) as their supervisor. The supervisor can manage multiple teams if their from the same school.

- Participating students should always use services from AWS via the AWS Educate Program to test & build their project. Additional hardware/software complementing the solution can be utilized.

What pre-requisite skills should I have?

There are no requirements and we don't need you to have any coding background. Just be interested to learn and come join us for the 1 Day workshop.
